Cavapoo
A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Poodle, the Cavapoo is bred for a small, affectionate companion with a low-shedding coat — when the coat genetics actually cooperate.

Cavapoo overview
Generation matters. An F1 (Cavalier × Poodle) is the most variable in coat; an F1b (F1 × Poodle) is more reliably low-shedding; multigenerational lines are increasingly consistent. Furnishing status (the RSPO2 gene) determines whether a puppy has the classic teddy-bear face or a flat spaniel-style coat.
Temperament
Affectionate, sensitive and people-oriented. Cavapoos attach strongly and need separation training early to avoid distress when left alone.
Grooming
High maintenance. Brush to the skin every other day and book a groomer every 6–8 weeks; a matted doodle coat is a welfare problem, not a cosmetic one.
Health considerations
Ask for cardiac clearance and MRI or at minimum an honest syringomyelia discussion on the Cavalier side, plus DNA panels covering PRA-prcd, DM, epis-7 and von Willebrand disease.
Is a Cavapoo right for you?
Suits companion homes that want a small, velcro dog and accept real grooming costs. Not a low-maintenance choice.

Cavapoo FAQs
- Are Cavapoos hypoallergenic?
- No dog is. Low-shedding coats can reduce allergen spread, but F1 Cavapoos vary widely and some shed noticeably. Coat DNA results from the breeder are the only reliable signal.
- What does F1, F1b and F2 mean?
- F1 is a first cross of the two parent breeds, F1b is an F1 bred back to a Poodle, and F2 is two F1s bred together. Later generations bred to a Poodle are typically more consistent in coat.
