How Persona-verified breeders reduce scam risk

Almost every pet scam depends on the seller being unidentifiable. Identity verification attacks that single point.

What verification checks

A Persona identity check compares a government-issued ID against a live selfie with liveness detection, confirming that a real, identifiable person controls the account and that their name matches their documentation.

That makes disposable accounts expensive. A scammer running twenty fake catteries cannot pass twenty identity checks with twenty real documents.

What verification does not check

Identity verification confirms identity only. It does not confirm genetic quality, health testing, lineage accuracy, ethical breeding practices, housing conditions or any guarantee about an individual animal, unless those items are separately verified and shown on the profile.

Treat the badge as a starting filter, not a substitute for your own due diligence: ask for health testing certificates, a video call, and a written contract regardless of badge status.

Using it alongside the other checks

Filter your search to verified breeders, then apply the standard red-flag checks. Verification plus a live video call plus documented health testing plus a traceable payment method is a combination scams almost never survive.

Frequently asked questions

Does a verified badge mean the animals are healthy?
No. It confirms the breeder's identity. Health, lineage and breeding practice claims need separate documentation such as health testing certificates and registry paperwork.
